Jene Shaffstall:

Jene is your a-typical hands on restaurant owner. It is not unusual to see Jene washing dishes, cooking your dinner, or serving your table. What is always evident is his easy going demeanor- and his mid-west hard working values assuring you the best possible dining experience. Jene has been making friends of his customers for over 25 years in Scottsdale, most notably 15+ years working side by side with his mentor and friend Chris Pischke of the infamous Pischke's Paradise in Old Town Scottsdale. Some say Pischke's wasn't a restaurant- it was a religion. Jene always considers his customers a friend; he puts his all into creating the food and atmosphere that is quickly becoming a Scottsdale Ranch point of pride.

Ann Pepper:

Ann is Jene's partner in business and in parenting. They share their lives with two wonderful sons. Andrew who when not keeping the beat for the Chaparral HS marching band is often working at the café and Jack who wishes he can work- but is still a bit too young. Although you won't likely see Ann at the café- her presence is known from the moment you walk through the doors. All those little touches are Ann's signature touches. She is also the behind the scenes voice of the café. Join our email list or like us on Facebook to get to know Ann better.

Larry started his training early at the tender age of 5 years old. Larry has fond memories of the good times he and his mother spent making omelets, pizza and cheesecake.

His professional career started by gaining hands on experience in fine dining restaurants of Manhattan, NY. An experience he says every cook should have.  He worked under Michelin 4 Star Executive chef Serge Backes at Serge Provencal Cuisine.

The draw of the west and Arizona brought him to the 5 Diamond Boulders Resort where he was the chef de cuisine in the Latilla room.  Larry spent several years with the House of Tricks in Tempe before he joined us a couple years ago and redefined our approach to dinner.  The opportunity to work with David Schmidt at L'Auberge de Sedona inspired a move to northern Arizona. Now he is back at his favorite home bringing his upscale approach to what some would consider comfort foods.

Larry takes great pride in his work. He is passionate about making everything from scratch, and using only the finest ingredients. He is always dreaming up new menu offerings so come prepared to try something new each time. If you enjoy your dining experience, be sure to say hi to Larry- applause is always welcomed.
